I travelled extensively over 40 years to countries such as Bhutan, Laos and Orissa (India) taking 1000s of photographs. In 2004 I went to Cuba, where I met and subsequently married my Cuban wife. We have one daughter, Yesline.
Now, as well as working as an independent ERP Project Manager, I am channeling my passion for photography into publishing my own works and those of young Cuban photographers.
Most of the books that I have published recently have been of my daughter (and are for private use only); however, I have published three books and I have plans to publish future books including a retrospective of my black and white photographs with the working title Timeless.
The books are published in hardback, softback and eBook formats and are available from on-line vendor Blurb, guaranteeing the quality of the product and time for distribution. It is also planned that the books will be available from online retailers worldwide such as Amazon, Baker & Taylor, and Barnes & Noble. Brick and mortar book-stores, NACSCORP, and the Espresso Book Machine will also be able to order these books.
My daughter Yesline was born in Bayamo, Cuba and she lived there for the first 2 years of her life before she came to live with me in the UK. During those 2 years, I spent half my time living in Cuba and working remotely from an internet office in my role as ERP Project Manager. During this time, I took the photos that I would later publish in my book Havana.
The following books are all available for purchase from Blurb.
Havana always seems timeless, locked in the past. It reminds me of those Hollywood actresses who appeared on chat shows: their elegance undeniable, their beauty still shining through despite their age; and with such incredible stories to tell. This is the Havana I love.
Quince años are, today, a unique feature of Latino culture. A quinceañera is a girl celebrating her Quince, her 15th birthday celebration. It is the end of her childhood journey. It’s the recognition of her womanhood. This book presents the story of quinceañeros and the studio portraits of 3 beautiful Cuban quinceañeras, from Bayamo and Santiago de Cuba, Cuba.
Modern civilization has not changed the Bonda very much. They have preserved themselves unaffected by the march of civilization and still maintain their primitive social customs and traditions.
All books are dedicated to my daughter Yesline de la Caridad Smith-West Milanes.
